From Learning to Leading

My teaching experience spans secondary classrooms, eLearning environments, literacy intervention, and individualized academic support. As an Ontario Certified Teacher with Junior, Intermediate, and Senior qualifications, I have taught English, Religion, and literacy-based courses while supporting students with diverse strengths, learning needs, and educational goals.

My practice is grounded in inclusive and responsive instruction, with an emphasis on literacy, critical thinking, student voice, relationship building, and meaningful assessment. Across in-person and virtual classrooms, I use differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning, culturally responsive pedagogy, and scaffolded supports to create learning experiences that are accessible, engaging, and purposeful.

My Teaching Journey

Michael Power–St. Joseph Catholic Secondary School

Long-Term Occasional Teacher | TCDSB | September 2025 – June 2026

During my full-year LTO at Michael Power–St. Joseph, I planned and delivered curriculum across secondary English and Religion courses, including ENG2P, ENG2D, ENG3U, ENG4C, and Grade 9 Religion.

My practice included unit and lesson planning, differentiated instruction, assessment and evaluation using triangulated evidence, literacy intervention, IEP accommodations, and ongoing communication with students and families. I incorporated Universal Design for Learning, culturally responsive pedagogy, scaffolded literacy supports, and Gospel-centred teaching to respond to the diverse needs of learners.

eLearning

Secondary Online Education | YCDSB & TCDSB | 2025–2026

My eLearning experience includes teaching Grades 10–12 OSSLC through YCDSB and Grade 12 University English (ENG4U) through TCDSB.

Working in accelerated asynchronous environments strengthened my ability to design clear digital instruction, manage curriculum pacing, assess student learning, provide individualized and timely feedback, communicate with families, and identify students requiring additional intervention or support. Through D2L and other digital tools, I created structured and accessible online learning experiences while maintaining high academic expectations.

ABC Tutoring Co.

Founder & Private Tutor | 2016–Present

Through ABC Tutoring Co., I provide individualized academic instruction and literacy support for secondary and adult learners. My work includes targeted literacy intervention, course-level academic support, skill development, and accommodations for students with identified learning needs.

Tutoring has strengthened my ability to identify individual learning gaps, adapt instruction, scaffold complex skills, and build student confidence through personalized learning.

Teaching Beyond the Curriculum

Teaching extends beyond curriculum delivery. My professional practice is rooted in understanding the learner as a whole person, building meaningful relationships, maintaining high expectations while providing appropriate supports, and creating opportunities for students to think critically, communicate confidently, and take ownership of their learning.

Each teaching experience has continued to shape my professional identity and reinforce my commitment to reflective practice, inclusive Catholic education, and lifelong learning.
