Welcome to Grade 7!

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
— William Butler Yeats

Teaching is both an art and a responsibility — an opportunity to inspire, empower, and foster meaningful growth in the lives of students.

During my final practicum at St. Eugene Catholic School, I had the privilege of teaching a vibrant Grade 7 class across a range of subjects, including physical education, mathematics, science, history, geography, religion (Fully Alive), and language arts through novel studies, poetry, and informative writing. I also co-planned and co-taught art lessons that celebrated Black and marginalized artists, allowing students to engage with diverse voices and perspectives.
Throughout this placement, my teaching approach centered on creating a classroom community rooted in inquiry, collaboration, and student voice. Lessons were designed to be differentiated, culturally responsive, and engaging — with strategies such as project-based learning, small group work, peer teaching, gamified review sessions, and opportunities for creative self-expression.
One of my greatest areas of growth during this placement was in the application of theory into practice. I consistently planned comprehensive lessons that incorporated accommodations for IEPs, universal design for learning, and technology integration. I collaborated closely with my mentor teacher, support staff, and families to ensure every student had the opportunity to thrive. These experiences not only strengthened my instructional practices but also deepened my understanding of the importance of flexibility, reflection, and inclusive education.
This final practicum solidified my identity as a professional educator — one who believes in the power of education to build compassionate, critically-thinking communities. I leave St. Eugene confident in my ability to lead a classroom where students feel valued, challenged, and inspired to grow.
Thank you for taking the time to explore my two-year journey.
